The crowd, indifferent to the suffering of others (why do we act like this? 😦 ), tells them to be silent; but Jesus does have mercy on them. 🙂

Mt 20.20-28 A mother’s request

Let’s continue with Matthew 20 … had a LOT OF TIME without drawing the comic. 😦

At that time James and John did not know it but Jesus, the Son of God; whom they were asking for a position of honor; will even wash their feet. Here Jesus speaks of the greatness of service and also demonstrated it with works.

“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!” Philippians 2:5-8

Jesus predicts his death a third time

Would you like to know when and in what way you will die? 😯

Jesus knew it! In his words he shows how aware he was of all the suffering he would experience. Why did he go ahead and didn’t avoid it?

Only his sacrifice would allow the forgiveness of our sins and give us eternal life through faith. Only his agonizing suffering frees us from our deserved eternal suffering:

“The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hadeswere thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:13-15

“And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” Revelation 20:10

God is love. His love was manifested in the sacrifice of Jesus to save us even though we did not deserve it; but He is also Just and in due time will judge.

And I heard the altar respond: “Yes, Lord God Almighty, true and just are your judgments.” Revelation 16:7
